Ideally, all dogs should be kept inside as part of the family, but what do you do if you see a dog huddled outside trying to stay warm? PAWS friend Susanna called her local Animal Control Officer and referred to Maine's shelter standards for dogs left outside for long periods. The ACO contacted the dog's owner and requested that the dog be taken inside during the cold snap. Knowing the law when you reach out for help can make a big difference in an animal's life.
