How to Adopt a Pet from PAWS
We currently have many animals in need of a new home. We invite you to visit our shelter to find the perfect match for you and your family! Or visit our available animals page to find an adoptable pet online.
Be sure to read the entire adoption process below and complete the necessary forms.
After deciding you're ready to welcome a furry friend into your family, the adoption process will proceed in the following steps:
Fill out an adoption survey - this can be done online or at our facility and will help us make a better animal match to each family.
Filling out a survey does not hold an animal for you or, it merely begins the process.
We will check in with your landlord to make sure they are okay with the adoption and with your vet to make sure current animals are up to date on core vaccinations.
If you currently have a dog, we will check with your town of residence to ensure your dog is registered with the town
After the application is processed, you will be notified and invited to talk to one of our knowledgeable staff members about which of our animals would be a good fit for your family.
After your new furry friend has been selected, we will complete the adoption paperwork*** and you're ready to go home!
*** FOR ALL DOG ADOPTIONS: We require that you bring all current family dogs to PAWS to do a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting to ensure everyone gets along.
Additionally, all dogs have a 3-day sleepover period to make sure that the animal fits into the family lifestyle. The dog can be returned any time within the 3-day period if there the fit is not right for your home.
If all goes well, adoption paperwork will be completed at the end of the 3-day period.
